We Love Pai

For the history of Pai, Pai was once a quiet town but nowadays Pai primarily thrives on tourism. The originally locals where Shan people (ethnic Tai or Thai Yai) migrated from the Burmese civil war for over 200 years. Morever, it first appears that there's not a lot to see in Pai (pronounced like the English word 'bye' not 'pie').

Nine Attractions in Pai

  1. The Pai Historical Bridge: This bridge is comparable to a gateway to Pai district. Initially extablished during the World War II by Japanese army and destroyes after the war so Pai people renewably built it again.

  2. Tha Pai Hot Spring: Pang Nam Ron Ta Pai is the mounth of a spring at Pai Pier in Mae Hi and surrounded with a lot of Teak trees.

  3. Morning Market: If you visit pai, wake up a bit earlier to making merits in the morning and see way of the local living that cannot find anywhere else. Opens from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m.

  4. Walking Street in Pai: Walking Street is the downtown of Pai; located on Rungsiyanon road. All souvenirs & handmade clothes direct from highland villages.

  5. Wat Nam Hu: This temple contains a sacred Chiang Saen Buddha image age over 500 years. The image's topknot can be opened and contained holy water, revered by local folk.

  6. Wat Phra That Mae Yen: This temple is in Mae Yen village, Tambol Mae Hi, located on a hill from where visitors overlook the whole Pai after paying tribute to the shrine.

  7. Kongland: Kongland is in Ban Rong Yang away from Pai District 7 kilometers. It is hight eroding cliff just like Pa Muang Pee in Phrae Province, which is a large area around 8,000 square meters connected the way Maemalai-Pai.

  8. Karen Maerim Village: Another charm of Pai is the combination of diverse races like Thai, Yunan and Karen of Pga-gan-Yaw in the same area. With the unique language and clothing, you may discover some beautiful spots in the surrounding hills.

  9. Santichon Village: Ban Santichon is Yunnanese Chinese community which offers tourists a rare glompse of the food, culture and lifestyle of the people who migrated there.
