
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Highlights Thai New Year celebrations throughout the four main regions of the Kingsom, But, for those who wanna enjoy the cultural splash in the capital, here's a list of traditional festivities to soak up:
Songkran Celebration of the four regions and the Grand Songkran Legend light-amd-sound presentation
Head to the Royal Grand, better known as Sanam Luang (on the southern side, near the Temple of the Emerald Buddha [Wat Phra Kaeo]) for a cultural showcase of Thai customs, traditions and way of life in the four regions of the Kingdom (through Apr 15, 11am-11pm). Meanwhile, the evening event manifests a multimedia presentation of the Songkran traditions from the Sukhothai and Ayutthaya periods through to the Rattanakosin era (through Apr 15, 7-8pm).
Procession of Phra Puttha Sihing Budha Image
An auspicious opportunity to pay respects to and pour scented lustral water over the highly revered Phra Puttha Sihing Buddha images, which is been believed to be a spiritual guardian protecting the local community from harm (Apr 12, 8sm-4pm).
Wat Pho Songkran Festival
A congregation of 199 monks chant prayers for the begining of the Thai New Year (Apr 12, 5pm). The temple Songkran fair continues with an array of merit-making and cultural activities including the ritual bathing of Buddha images (Apr 12-16, 8am-6pm).
